Have you seen my Word for the Year post from last year? It details how I have been setting an intention or theme to the year for a few years now and I do this instead of resolutions. It is a way to have focus for the year. Another yearly ritual I have been doing for a few years now is a yearly card reading for the year. I began by doing yearly Oracle card readings and I now use my Tarot deck for the year reading.
My process… I start by being calm and centred via a meditation – if you are new to meditation, you could try my new year intention 15 minute meditation which is a free video on youtube: New Year Intention Meditation
Then once I have my calm centred self in play, I shuffle my cards. Sometimes a card jumps out which I put aside for the overall card of the year. If none jumps out, I pick this card at the end. Once I have shuffled I start choosing the cards from January to December and an extra card as a general theme for the year.
Then I turn all the cards over and have a look at the year as a whole. What card is on my birthday month? What card is present now for January?
Then I start journalling on each month. I take my time and really look at each card and interpret what I am seeing. I also look to the guidebook for more guidance and write this all down. This is helpful when looking back at the months as sometimes what I see now is not what the card will represent at a later date.
I love making my yearly card reading a ritual. I do not hurry and often wait until the end of the first week of January when I have more time and the year’s energy is in play. It is also important to have let go of the energy of the previous year before you start picking the cards. You definitely want to fully be in the new year energy.
Over to you… Let me know if you already do this as a yearly ritual. Or are you going to try this for the first time this year? It is a fun process and also so interesting when looking at the months as they appear in the year and how true some of what you write will be. Do let me know how you get on in the comments.
Happy New Year to you and enjoy doing your card reading for the year.
