Last week, in our weekly meditation classes in Saltdean, I did a guided meditation teaching on ‘being heard‘. A teaching very important to me as our voice is so often suppressed, silenced and hidden. People do not feel heard.

In the class, we focused on how we are listening to ourselves, listening to others and how people hear us. Do they fully comprehend what we are saying, do they understand? Or is there mis-communication and a conversation breakdown?

What aspects of your life are you heard and in what aspects of your life are you not heard – personal life, family, workplace, in wider society. Do you listen to yourself?

...listen to your stories...

…listen to your stories…

So the class went into their meditation on being heard and suddenly a fly started to buzz. I searched it out from where I was sitting and couldn’t see it.

Every time I started to guide and speak the meditation, the fly buzzed and when I stopped speaking, it stopped buzzing. It wanted to be heard…and was trying… I could hear it, but not see it. Eventually it must have realised it was not getting my attention and stopped buzzing.

This FLY spirit animal gave us a deeper understanding of ‘being heard’ – it allowed us to go to the next layer. We are like onions peeling our layers as we learn, as we become aware and soon we will be at the core of awareness and understanding.

The first few times you are not heard, you desperately want your point of view to come across and so you keep trying – ‘you buzz’. You wish to be heard. But if people around you are not listening, you get back the realisation that you are not being heard or valued and you will eventually fall silent – and ‘stop buzzing’. You will give up trying to get your view across, you will start suppressing your voice and yourself.

This happens all the time.

So dearest soul, what was this fly teaching us? Start strengthening your voice, your ability to be heard – you do this by listening to yourself and allowing yourself to be heard by others. You also start learning to listen to others with more care and attention.

Do not allow your voice to be silenced or suppressed when you are speaking your truth. Let your conviction shine out.

I love the way life gives us the opportunity to learn all the time. You are given your relationships… your experiences… in order to learn from them. Everything and everyone is your teacher. We can learn everyday, every minute if we allow ourselves to SEE, to be open to all the lessons which are present.

So what are you opening yourself up to today? What will nature or life show you? How are you strengthening your voice?

I want to hear all of it – I really do,

Lots of love,

Bx
