The fire monkey as the Hindu god Hanuman
A few weeks ago I was speaking to one of my students and she recognised that her energy… life… everything had shifted since the start of the Chinese New Year – February 8th 2016.
The year of the Fire Monkey.
I looked into the attributes of the monkey and how this could be affecting us all. Some of the shift in energy will depend on which animal is your Chinese year sign, but some of the attributes will be relevant for all of us AND by all of us I mean world-wide collective energy shifts.
The monkey… the dear monkey living on trees, swinging from branch to branch. Can you picture him? Swinging from his tail, from his arms, from his legs. He moves quickly, jumps high, jumps across, moves this way and that. There is order to the movement, there is flow to the hastiness. But from the outside, it looks like chaos.
The monkey is not rooted and is totally in the air. Under Ayurveda, the ancient Indian system of healing, the air element of a person is called vata and it is this element which is the most unrooted and causes people to be confused or in chaos. Plus this year is a fire monkey year, so we can increase the ungrounded-ness (and chaos…confusion) by maybe 100? I trust you are getting the picture!
So, dear soul, if you have been feeling this chaotic energy (as a lot of us have) remind yourself of the monkey and the need to root.
Deep roots allow you to be in the moment, in your centre even when there is chaos around you. Deep roots allow you to be in your core. The deeper the roots, the more you can awaken. The closer your connection to spirit, to yourself and to the truth of who you are.
I recorded a video a few months ago on a rooting and grounding meditation and it is at the end of this post if you’d like to use it.
Collective energy – we are all in this together – this life, this world, this time. With our increasingly individualistic stance in society, we often forget that the collective energy of the world is so important. If everyone, everywhere is feeling the energy of the fire monkey…or the new moon…or other planetary influences – then we are all moving forward as one, in sync.
This year will be very significant on a global collective energy level. There will be elections, decisions, people moving across borders. There will be extra, sometimes chaotic energy with the fire monkey.
So what can you do? Root often! Allow your voice to be heard and realise the importance of the collective voice. Doing good for yourself means doing good for others; what happens externally will show up internally within you. We are all connected in this collective energy of the world. Realising this can allow you to have love and compassion for yourself and for others. Let this be the theme of the year – we definitely need it.
I would love to know if anything has already come up for you around the fire monkey year and also if you do the grounding meditation, how it was for you. I love hearing from you.
Stay rooted!
Love, Bindi x

The beautiful picture of Hanuman, the Hindu god, as the fire monkey was found by Jay in his files. If anyone knows the author of this work, please let me know so I can add a credit to them. Thank you!
