The political scene is very buoyant in the UK at the moment – we can definitely say this for the rest of the world too! In the UK, there have been a few weeks of conferences and last week was the Prime Minister, Theresa May’s conference speech. During this speech, she coughed a lot and it soon became apparent that she had been ill and was still recovering from a cough and cold. However it also came out in news reports that the days before the speech, she had done numerous media interviews. In one of the interviews the day before the conference speech, she was even asked if her voice would be ok as she seemed like she was losing it.

A lesson in self-care…

The previous Prime Minister, David Cameron, would refuse media interviews in the days preceding a conference speech. He would look after his voice.

Dear one… when we are recovering from ill-health our body must be able to take the time to heal. We cannot keep going as before, we cannot ignore the signs, we cannot disregard the rest we need. And when we do, like Theresa May did, we can find ourselves in a place of more dis-ease. Her coughing disrupted the message she wanted to put across. At one point, she couldn’t speak as she was losing her voice. Yes, as a leader, it can seem self-indulgent to take the time to rest, her views are important and she needs to do the interviews. At the same time, she needed her voice to rest and as I noted, the previous Prime Minister, was more clear with his boundaries around the conference season.

We need people who are committed to our well-being around us… we need our tribe…

Where are the people around you, in your everyday, who are telling you to rest, dear soul? Who is giving you the time for self-care… who, in your team, has your well-being at heart… who is looking out for you and your voice? It is so important to have these people around you. People who want you to be at your best when you need to be, and so will indicate that you need to rest and look after yourself when there is time to do that. I have a feeling that David Cameron had these people around him and I wonder where these people are for Theresa May.

Over to you and your self-care, dear one…

What can you do this week for your self-care? Where are you pushing yourself and not thinking of the consequences? In what ways can you rest this week? Looking after yourself and a self-care regime means you can be stronger and clearer when you need it. AND who is around you? Do the people around you care for your well-being…

I’d love to know your thoughts around all of this. Also let me know what self-care you will do this week in the comments below.

Love to you, Bx
